Chairperson Moore County Board of Education discusses May Bond Issue - 04/10/2018

Helena Wallin-Miller - Helena is the Chairperson of The Moore County Board of Education. In her short tenure as Board Chair, Helena, the mother of two Moore County School students, has demonstrated superb leadership skills, terrific articulation of the challenges of our local school system, a deep understanding of public education needs, and the ability to work cooperatively with our other county leaders.  She will explain the overall county needs that are covered in the upcoming May bond issue vote. 


Moor County Director of Elections discusses 2018 Elections - 04/03/2018

Glenda Clendenin - Glenda is Moore County's outstanding Director of Elections. She will be addressing the upcoming elections for 2018. Her immediate concern is the election in May which will include primaries for both parties as well as bond issues for The Moore County Schools and Sandhills Community College. She will also be addressing the need for poll workers for the May elections and the elections in November.


WEE Bluebird Houses - 03/27/2018

Birdhouse project at WEE on March 27 was an outstanding success.  Kids and Builders persevered the cold temperatures to make it a great day.  Kids had a great time.  A big thank you to WEE for providing hot coffee.  This could not have happened without the mighty Bluebird House Team.  Check their picture on the website plus check the Photo album for more pictures of the event.  This was by far, the largest turnout of builders that we have ever had (18 members strong).

Marianne Kernan shares history of Linden Lodge with Kiwanis - 03/06/2018

The speaker was Marianne Kernan, Linden Lodge Foundation Chairman of the Board and Linden Lodge Executive Director.  Linden Lodge Foundation, Inc. is an all volunteer organization dedicated to the recovery of men and women with a serious and persistent mental illness.  Marianne is Past President, NAMI-Moore County; spouse of a retired U. S. Army General; and a National Advocate for the Mentally Ill.  She, as most individuals, was forced to jump into the world of mental illness when her son, Keith, was diagnosed with the mental disorder Schizophrenia.  It took Marianne four years to find land appropriate for Linden Lodge which now serves 6 residents and one 24 hour staff member....

Moore County District II Commissioner visits Kiwanis - 02/20/2018

Louis Gregory, was elected to the Moore County District II (McLendon Hills to Pinehurst) County Commissioner position in 2016.  During his 43 year professional career he served mostly in police command positions as Superintendent of the CSX Police Department, Joint Command Staff of the FBI Ant-Terrorism Task Force, and Police Chief of the Whispering Pines Police Department.  In 2009, he retired but remained active as an ethics instructor to prospective law enforcement officers at Sandhills Community College.  He was quick to say that the school board makes the decision on required expenditures, and the County Commissioners have to find the money to pay for the expenditures. ...


Dr. Harrison Mabry is guest speaker - 02/06/2018

Dr. Harrison Mabry, practicing Pediatrician with the Sandhills Pediatric Seven Lakes location, was the speaker.  Dr. Mabry shared many interesting facts about the practice and his experiences in the practice.  Sandhills Pediatrics will not accept children who are not vaccinated and refuse to have vaccinations because of potential disease exposure to other children.   The practice has a child mental health service staffed by a Psychiatrist, Psychologist and a PA specialized in psychology.  Their patients come from multiple counties.  As physicians, they see many cases of opioid addiction passed to the child by the parent.  Dr. Mabry, as well as the other practice...
